Richard’s Biog
What’s your musical journey?
Singing has always been something I’ve done however, my love of music began learning the trumpet in year 4. I also remember a long car journey in Florida during which my brother and I sang the entire Lion King soundtrack, harmonies and all! I was probably about 8 at the time.
I joined my first band at 14 as the lead vocalist. We were a Soul and Rhythm & Blues band called The Frequency Suspects. We played some kids parties and local events.
At 17 I was asked to start singing backing vocals for Missbee music. A very talented Jazz-inspired singer from London. We played bars and clubs, mostly in Islington. Whilst singing with Missbee music I started a Physiotherapy degree at Brunel University.
Whilst at Brunel I held a music scholarship. I was the lead in 2 university musicals and ensemble in another. I also sang in a couple of choirs, one choral (classical) and another that performed songs from musicals.
Around the end of my university degree, was the first time I sang in front of 2500+ people, at an event called Spring Harvest. It was also about this time I had my first experience of Gospel singing. I started singing with a collection of singers and musicians called The KWM, which lead to me singing with Noel Robinson and Nu Image.
Since then I have performed as a choir member for Barry Manilow, Take That, JLS, Josh Groban and Michael Ball. I have been on television for X factor and for a live event called Global Day of Prayer.
Have you ever recorded?
I have recorded parts for a Haiti Charity single ‘Somebody Please’ (2010) at Abbey Road studios and have sung on live albums ‘Journey: Walking the way of Christ’ (2009), ‘Rain: The Renewel Live’ (2010), ‘When Heaven Breaks In’ (Yet to be released) and ‘Route 66’ (2011).
Why should I study with you?
I’m an easy-going individual who has a real heart for helping others better themselves. No student is more important than another. Whether you’re preparing for your album recording or wanting to sing lullabies for your children, it’s all the same to me.
SLS is a technique not a style and technique always enhances style. It allows a person to be free to express themselves how they want. Like Physiotherapy is about providing the tools for a person to live as independently as possible, SLS is about providing the tools for safe and free vocal expression.
